Abstract

Negotiation acts as a key approach for resolving conflicts and crises peacefully. Research shows that coming to an agreement can effectively tackle complex security problems without resulting in harm or fatalities. In law enforcement, police negotiation is a strategic method that uses psychological techniques to handle crisis situations, requiring negotiators to have specific psychological knowledge to successfully navigate particular incidents. Negotiation techniques are procedures that help negotiators to be as successful as possible in negotiations. Capturing the situation, assessing and choosing the technique, and choosing the right moment to apply it are especially important here because bad reactions can have a very negative impact on negotiations. Police negotiation is one of the most effective police tools for resolving crisis situations. Police officers are increasingly faced with challenges that go beyond routine procedures and require knowledge, skill, empathy, but also the ability to make decisions in the moment, often with consequences for human lives.
