Abstract

Millions of people suffer from mental health illnesses, which significantly strain healthcare systems and contribute to the worldwide disease burden. Due to staff shortages, societal stigma, financial constraints, and geographic restrictions, many communities still have inadequate access to timely and inexpensive mental healthcare despite rising awareness and legislative attempts. Innovative approaches to providing mental healthcare treatments outside of conventional clinical settings have been made possible by the quick development of digital technologies. In order to support mental health promotion, early detection, treatment, and long-term monitoring, digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) include telepsychiatry, mobile health applications, internet-based psychotherapies, wearable technology, artificial intelligence-driven tools, and virtual reality technologies.
Because community settings encourage accessibility, continuity of treatment, and patient engagement, they offer a good platform for putting these interventions into practice. Research suggests that digital mental health initiatives can improve self-management skills, close treatment gaps, increase access to healthcare in underprivileged areas, and improve overall quality of life. However, overcoming obstacles such digital inequality, low technology literacy, privacy concerns, ethical dilemmas, and infrastructure limitations is necessary for successful adoption. In order to promote adoption, educate the public, and guarantee fair use of digital resources, community health nurses are essential. Future advancements in personalized digital psychiatry, predictive analytics, and artificial intelligence are anticipated to revolutionize the provision of mental health services. The applicability, efficacy, potential, difficulties, and prospects for the future of digital mental health therapies in community settings are examined in this review.
