Abstract

Alternative systems of medicine viz. Ayurveda, Siddha, and the Chinese Medicine have become more popular in the recent years. Medicinal herb is a biosynthetic laboratory, for chemical compounds like glycosides, the alkaloids, resins, oleoresins, etc. These exert physiological and therapeutic effect. For extracting olive bioactive compounds specific solvents like ethyl acetate, methanol extract, aqueous extracts are used the compounds isolated were β-amyrin, β-sitosterol, the oleanolic acid, erythrodiol and urs-2β,3β-dihydroxy-12-en-28-oic acid.
