Opioid is a Synthetic Derivative
Keywords:
CNS, Health, Opioid, Substance, StimulantsAbstract
The word opioid refers to any substance that mimics the effects of morphine. Opioid painkillers interrupt the flow of pain signals from the body to the brain. These pain relievers mainly include morphine but also cover many derivatives of morphine as well as synthetic drugs that operate in a similar way. The development of tolerance to opioids happens quickly. Addiction presents a unique challenge, making it harder to define and measure, and it consists of two separate parts – physical and psychological dependence. Physical dependence is linked to a bodily withdrawal syndrome. Psychological dependence manifests as a strong desire for the drug, which can be more significant and harder to overcome than physical dependence.
