Formulation and Evaluation of Polyherbal Skin Glowing Soap by Using Natural Extracts

Abstract

The growing demand for healthy and radiant skin has increased the use of cosmetic products; however, concerns regarding the safety of synthetic ingredients have promoted interest in herbal formulations. Herbal cosmetics are considered safer alternatives due to their natural origin and minimal side effects. The present study aimed to formulate and evaluate a poly-herbal skin glowing soap using natural ingredients such as Oryza sativa (rice), Carica papaya (papaya), and Ficus carica (fig). These herbal ingredients were selected based on their reported antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and skin-enhancing properties. Rice contributes vitamins and antioxidants that protect against skin ageing and irritation, papaya contains papain enzyme and vitamins that promote exfoliation and acne reduction, while fig provides antioxidants and vitamin C that support skin rejuvenation and collagen production. The formulated poly-herbal soap was evaluated for various physicochemical parameters, including pH, moisture content, foaming index, foam retention time, alcohol insoluble matter, and total fatty matter. The evaluation results demonstrated that the prepared soap possessed acceptable physicochemical characteristics, good appearance, satisfactory foaming ability, effective cleansing action, and enhanced skin glowing properties. No adverse effects were observed during evaluation. The study concludes that the developed poly-herbal soap is a safe, effective, and natural alternative to synthetic skincare soaps and has potential for use in herbal cosmetic formulation.
