Self-Management for Pregnant Woman with Gestational Diabetes

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a transient form of diabetes triggered by pregnancy that can affect both the mother and the fetus. The ramifications of a gestational diabetes mellitus diagnosis on pregnant women must be recognized. This concerns GDM's ability for self-regulation. Objective: The objective of the study is to assess the self-management capabilities of pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Methodology: The study design is a quantitative (descriptive) examination evaluating the self-management levels of pregnant women with gestational diabetes from November 2, 2023, to April 7, 2024, who visit consultation clinics at the Maternity and Children Teaching Hospital. The questionnaire was designed to assess the self-efficacy of pregnant women with gestational diabetes, consisting of three sections: Socio-demographic (8 items), Reproductive history (8 items), and self-management for women with gestational diabetes (15 items). Results: The study's findings indicate that 53.33% reported a fair level of knowledge, while 25% indicated poor levels and 21.66% reported good levels. Furthermore, The study demonstrated a substantial correlation between levels of self-management and certain demographic variables (age, education level) at p<0.05.
Conclusion: The researchers concluded that level self-management for pregnant woman with gestational diabetes was moderate at (1.96) mean of score. Recommendations: The study recommended that it was necessary to To raise women's awareness of gestational diabetes, change their mindset toward it, and encourage healthy lifestyle choices and self-care, it is important to consistently undertake straightforward educational initiatives.
