The Midwifery Value Chain: Integrating Strategic Operations Management to Optimize Global Maternal Health Outcomes
Abstract
In the globalized healthcare economy of 2026, the sustainability of maternity services depends on the seamless integration of clinical midwifery with high-efficiency management frameworks. This study examines the application of Value Chain Analysis (VCA) and Total Quality Management (TQM) within the obstetric nursing sector. By conceptualizing the maternity journey as a series of value-added activities, the research identifies systemic inefficiencies that contribute to "hidden costs" in maternal care. Through an international multi-site audit, this paper quantifies the correlation between midwifery-led care models and reduced institutional liability. Results demonstrate that a management-integrated approach reduces the "Cost of Quality" by 22% while enhancing patient throughput. The findings suggest that the commercial viability of modern obstetrics relies on elevating midwives to roles as clinical-commercial liaisons.
