Abstract

Burnout syndrome is a significant occupational risk among nursing officers working in demanding healthcare settings. It is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment, which can negatively affect patient care and the well-being of healthcare professionals. Nursing officers in private and government hospitals experience different workload demands and resource availability, which may influence their knowledge and practices related to burnout syndrome and its management. The objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge and practice regarding burnout syndrome and its management among nursing officers, to determine the correlation between knowledge and practice, and to identify the association between selected demographic characteristics and knowledge and practice levels. A quantitative approach with a comparative descriptive design was used among nursing officers working in selected private and government hospitals at Varanasi, U.P. A total of 500 participants were selected using a non-probability purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire and a self-reported practice checklist. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, including independent t-test, chi-square test, and Karl Pearson correlation coefficient. The findings of the study will help in understanding the level of knowledge and practice related to burnout syndrome among nursing officers and will support hospital administrators and nursing educators in developing effective training programs and supportive work environments to reduce burnout and improve the quality of patient care.
