Main Article Content
Abstract
The present study investigated the effectiveness of focused instructional programme on risk mitigation of handling LPG among homemakers at selected rural areas at Wayanad. The objectives of the study where to assess the knowledge regarding risk mitigation of handling LPG among homemakers, to assess the effectiveness of focused instructional programme on knowledge regarding risk mitigation of handling LPG among homemakers and to find out association between pre-test knowledge regarding risk mitigation of handling LPG among homemakers and selected demographic variables. The investigation adopted quasi experimental one group pre-test post-test research approach. The study was conducted in Meppadi panchayath, Wayand. Convenient sampling technique was used to select sample. The sample size was 60. A semi structures questionnaire was used. Data were tabulated and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that out of 60 samples selected majority (56.70%) of them belongs to the category of above 40 years and 43.30% belongs to 40 years and below. Majority (63.3%) of them were unemployed and remaining (36.7%) were employed. Among 60 samples 58.30 are studied up to 10th standard, 18.30% are studied upto 12th standard and remaining 23.3% belongs to degree or more. Out of 60 participants 58.30% were having a monthly income of 20,000 rupees and below and remaining 41.70% were having monthly income above 20,000 rupees. Out of 60 samples 55% of participants are using LPG for 15years and more, 21.70% of participants are using LPG for 10-15 years and 20% of participants are using LPG for 5-10 years and remaining 3.3% are using LPG for 0-5 years. The knowledge level of the sample showed a drastic increase after the administration of focused instructional programme from average 21.7% and good 78.3%. None of them have poor knowledge. The data were analysed using Wilcoxon signed-rank test. There is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test data reveals that the median score for pre-test is 15.5, Quartile 1(the 25th percentile of the data falls below this value) is 12 and Quartile 3(75th percentile of the data falls below this value) is 18.25. On the other hand, the median, Quartile 1 and Quartile 3 of the post-test is 25, 22 and 27 respectively. This showed that there is significant difference in pre-test and post-test knowledge, so it is proved that the focused instructional programme was effective. There is no significant association between the demographic variables such as age, occupation, monthly income and duration of using gas stove. Therefore, there is significant association between pre-test knowledge score and education.
