Respiratory tract contamination among children under five years of age contributes significantly to morbidity. Proper prevention and effective domiciliary (home-based) management by mothers play a crucial role in reducing complications and improving child health outcomes. Research aimed to identify the association regarding prevention and domiciliary management of URTIs among mothers of under-five children attending selected Anganwadi centers at Hassan.
The study design used was a descriptive cross-sectional. Convenience sampling was used to choose 100 moms with children under five. A comprehensive knowledge questionnaire encompassing URTI causes, symptoms, prevention strategies, and home management techniques was used to gather data. Descriptive and statistical test used.
The finding revealed that while a lesser percentage had adequate awareness and others had inadequate information, the majority of mothers had moderate awareness of URTI prevention and domiciliary management. Knowledge levels were significantly correlated with occupation, educational status, and prior exposure to health data.
The study comes to the conclusion that while moms have some awareness, systematic health education programs are necessary to improve their habits and knowledge. Increasing maternal awareness can help avoid URTIs and treat them effectively at home, which will lessen the burden of sickness among children under five.
