A Study to Assess the Psychological and Social Factors Influencing Suicidal Ideation and Coping Mechanisms Among Adolescents in Selected Educational Institutes of Bhopal (M.P.)

This study aimed to assess the psychological and social factors influencing suicidal ideation and coping mechanisms among adolescents in selected educational institutes of Bhopal (M.P.). A quantitative approach with a descriptive cross-sectional design was adopted. The study was conducted among 100 adolescents using a structured questionnaire comprising demographic variables, psychological and social factors scale, suicidal ideation scale, and coping mechanism scale.
The findings revealed that psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression, along with social factors like family pressure and peer influence, significantly contributed to suicidal ideation among adolescents. Adolescents used various coping mechanisms to manage stress. A significant association was observed between selected variables and suicidal ideation.
The study concludes that early identification of risk factors and strengthening coping mechanisms are essential in reducing suicidal ideation among adolescents.
