A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Educational Intervention Programme on Ill Effects of Junk Food Among Mother’s of School Going Children at Selected School of Belagavi City

Background: Junk foods are typically high in calories, fats, sugars, and salts, but low in essential nutrients. Regular consumption of such foods has been linked to numerous health problems, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and behavioral issues in children. Mothers, being the primary caregivers in most households, play a critical role in shaping their children's dietary habits. Their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding food directly influence the eating behaviors of their children. However, many mothers may lack adequate awareness about the long-term ill effects of junk food and the importance of balanced nutrition.
Methodology: A pre-experimental study was conducted among 60 mothers of school-going children in selected school of Belagavi. Sample was selected using simple random sampling technique. Data was collected by structured knowledge questionnaires.
Results: The finding shows that most of them in the pre-test 11 (18. 4%) had good knowledge, 17 (28.3%) had average knowledge and 32(53.33%) had poor knowledge. In post-test after educational intervention programme majority of the subjects 34(56.6%) had good knowledge and 25(41.7%) had very good knowledge, 1(1.7%) had average knowledge regarding ill effects of junk food.
Conclusion: The study concluded that, educational intervention programme to increase knowledge regarding ill effects of junk food among mother’s of school going children.
