Abstract

As healthcare costs rise globally, the management of specialized units like the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) requires a balance between clinical excellence and fiscal responsibility. This study investigates the application of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) management principles within the context of neonatal and infant nursing. By integrating commerce-driven efficiency models with pediatric clinical care, healthcare administrators can minimize "waste" (unnecessary movements, waiting times, and resource over-utilization) while maximizing patient safety. This paper identifies Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Length of Stay (LOS), infection rates, and medical supply chain efficiency. Results suggest that a management-centric approach to nursing reduces operational overhead by 15% without compromising infant health outcomes.
