Main Article Content
Abstract
This research investigated the impact of a structured instructional programme on young adults’ understanding of depression prevention at the Oriental School of Hotel Management, Vythiri. The aims of the study were to evaluate the participants’ initial level of knowledge, measure the effectiveness of the educational intervention, and explore the relationship between pre-intervention knowledge and selected demographic characteristics. A quantitative research methodology was adopted using a single-group pre-test and post-test design. A total of 52 students were selected through a convenience sampling technique to take part in the study. Knowledge concerning depression prevention was measured using a modified depression questionnaire. Both descriptive and inferential statistical methods were applied to analyse the collected data. “The findings revealed that there was no statistically significant relationship between baseline knowledge levels and the chosen demographic variables. Nevertheless, post-test scores showed a marked and statistically significant increase after the implementation of the structured teaching programme.” The study therefore concluded that the planned educational intervention was successful in improving young adults’ knowledge about depression prevention at the selected institution in Vythiri, Wayanad.
